*Quick disclaimer that I am a mom with a blog and not a physician. Make sure to discuss these remedies with your pediatrician before using them with your little one!*
My baby came down with his first sickness around 6 months of age. Luckily, it was just a cold and cough but it was still so heartbreaking to see him not feeling well. The worst part was since he couldn't breathe out of his nose easily it was difficult for him to nurse, drink a bottle, or lay flat on his back to sleep. After one night of little to no sleep for either of us, I knew I needed to try some natural remedies to get us through the days to come.

Natural Cold Remedies for Baby
Detox bath
Use a humidifier
Diffuse essential oils
Rub essential oils on bottom of feet
Frida Baby snot sucker, saline spray, and vapor wipes
Steamy skin to skin showers
Detox bath
- 1/3 cup epsom salt
- 1/3 cup baking soda
- 1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide
- 10 drops thieves essential oil
Pour mixture into a warm water sink bath or baby tub. Be cautious that thieves essential oil is a spicy blend made of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils, so you may want to start with less drops to make sure it doesn't cause a reaction on your baby's delicate skin. I did this bath every night for a week and my baby had no reaction on the skin. I had my baby soak in the bath for about 15 minutes and I continuously poured the water over him.

Diffuse essential oils
When your infant is sick you feel so helpless because there aren't many medications you can safely give babies before 1 year of age. One thing I felt like I could do to help him feel better was purify our air with thieves essential oil. This is the same oil I used in the detox bath. It is so powerful in helping the immune system. I filled all of the diffusers throughout our home with a few drops of thieves essential oil so our baby was breathing it in all day long. This is the thieves essential oil that I use because it has no synthetic fillers.
Rub essential oils on bottom of feet
Another natural cold remedy for babies is putting essential oils on the feet. I feel comfortable using this one because it's specifically formulated for kids and prediulted for sensitive skin.

Steamy skin-to-skin showers
On the nights that we didn't give our baby a detox bath, we would bring him into the shower for a quick rinse off before bed. This seemed to really help loosen his congestion! So much so, that I even started running the hot shower in the bathroom while I was doing my makeup and my baby was sitting in his bouncer seat. Just being in the steamy bathroom really helped! I've heard that skin-to-skin helps a baby feel better when they're sick too. I'm not sure if this is true, but our baby seemed to really enjoy showering with mom and dad! If you're worried about holding a slippery baby in the shower with you, you can always put them in a carrier such as the solly baby wrap!
I hope these natural cold remedies for baby help your little one feel better soon!
