This post is all about the IKEA Hemnes dresser nursery organization.
If you've searched for nursery decor inspiration on Pinterest chances are you've seen the IKEA Hemnes dresser styled in many different baby rooms. This dresser is so popular because it's fairly affordable at just around $400 and has so much storage space! Many people choose to switch out the knobs to add their own custom flair and use the top of the dresser as a changing table.
Anyone who has ever purchased furniture from IKEA knows the struggle of building it yourself with the vague instructions and abundance of hardware pieces provided. I'm not sure if it was pregnancy brain or because I was too impatient to wait for my husband to help me build this, but the IKEA Hemnes dresser is one of the more complicated IKEA furniture pieces I've put together. There were a few steps I had to re-do since I didn't follow the instructions correctly the first time. The top is also very heavy so you will want to complete this step with another person especially if you are pregnant! I'd estimate the IKEA Hemnes dresser assembly time to 6-7 hours total as I worked on it for around an hour a day for about a week. I used these knobs instead of the ones provided from IKEA and I love the finished product! The dresser feels very solid and great quality that will hopefully be able to be used for many years!
Once I got the IKEA Hemnes dresser built I couldn't wait to start the nursery organization! After watching several IKEA Hemnes dresser nursery organization videos, I decided that organizing bins were a must! The Skubb organizers were recommended to fit the Hemnes dresser and I found a 3 pack with 6 of each small, medium and large bins on amazon! I love the organizers for miscellaneous items like burp cloths, pacifiers, socks, bibs, etc. and they seem to fit the newborn to 3 month clothing well. I imagine I might have to switch to adjustable dividers once he grows into bigger clothes. We will see!
The smaller top drawers are filled with diapers, wipes, burp cloths, pacifiers, teethers, toys, and bibs. The middle medium drawers are filled with his current size clothes and the next size he will grow into. The large bottom drawers are filled with extra crib and bassinet sheets, sleep swaddles, socks, hats, and other items that won't be used as frequently such as charging cords and medicine.
To organize his clothes I used separate bins for sleepers, knotted gowns, matching sets, and onesies / pants. I decided to hang his "fancier" clothes like outfits that I will put him in to leave the house in the closet and kept the drawers for cozy staying at home clothes.
I love that the IKEA Hemnes dresser is large and sturdy enough to also use as a changing table. We purchased the keekaroo peanut changer which is a waterproof foam that is easy to wipe clean. This diaper caddy has so many pockets for storage which I filled with diapers, natural baby products with a calming scent, soft cotton muslin burp cloths, and an adorable hair brush and comb.
