We are finally finished with our guest room makeover just in time for my friends to stay this weekend! I want to make sure our guests feel comfortable and have everything they need when they stay with us so I asked my community of Instagram followers what they like having a guest room or hotel room. I received so many thoughtful ideas and incorporated many of them into our guest room makeover. In this post I am sharing a guest room essentials list that will make your guests feel like they are staying in a cozy hotel!

Guest room essentials list
1. pillows of different styles / thickness
This was one of the most common suggestions. People like options! I tried to have a mix of foam and feathered pillows of varied thickness.
2. cozy blankets
There is nothing worse than sleeping somewhere new and feeling so cold that it's hard to fall asleep. Make sure your guests are warm and cozy by having blankets easily accessible. These blankets are affordable dupes for the famous barefoot dreams blanket and this basket is such a cute way to store extra blankets in a guest room.
3. fan
Similar to my point above, it is equally as awful to sleep somewhere new that's too hot. All of the fans in our house are the hunter brand. I love that they are quiet and actually really pretty!
4. sound machine
An Alexa device is the ultimate guest room essential because it serves as a sound machine, music speaker, and alarm clock.
5. essential oil diffuser
Not only does this make a room smell incredible, but if you use high quality oils like these they can also help your guests sleep better too! Shop my favorite amazon diffuser here.
6. full length mirror
This is actually the item that inspired this list in the first place. When I first met my husband he didn't have any mirrors in his room and it would drive me crazy trying to get ready at his house! A mirror in general is a guest room essential but a full length mirror is best so your guests can see what their entire outfit looks like when getting ready.
7. toiletries
Many people recommend having towels and miniature toiletries like a hotel in a guest room. Since we have a linen closet right outside of the guest room I didn't think this was necessary. I did, however, put makeup remover wipes in a little welcome gift basket - more details on that below. I recently had guests over and one of the requested items was a hair dryer, so I will be sure to put an extra one in our linen closet!
8. phone charger
9. water
A mini fridge with various drink options will make your guest bedroom feel like a hotel. I just added water bottles to the gift baskets and that worked out wonderfully!
10. wifi password
Consider displaying this in a picture frame or on a letter board in your guest bedroom.
11. night light
12. robe
I love this idea because it really makes your guests feel like they're staying at a hotel! I want to grab this robe every time I pass it at Target - it looks like another barefoot dreams dupe!
13. lamp
A tip to make your house feel cozy in general is to use lamps instead of overhead lights. A bedside table lamp is a guest room essential.
14. waste basket
15. black out curtains
This is especially helpful for guests who are traveling with babies.
16. photos of your guests
I think this is a great way to make your guests feel loved and at home. You can switch out pictures in frames or pin several different photos to a cork board.
17. guest room welcome basket
This is a fun way to welcome guests while also providing guest room essential items. I plan to switch these up but here are some ideas to include in a guest room welcome basket:
- water bottle
- snack
- treat from local business
- make up remover wipes
- under eye patches or face mask
- toiletries
- sleep mask or ear plugs
- socks or slippers
I hope this guest room essentials list helps you prepare for your upcoming guests and makes them feel like they're staying in a cozy hotel. Thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog!
