1. Fresh paint
One of the easiest home renovations that makes a major improvement to the overall look if your house is a fresh coat of paint. To make your house feel cohesive, use the same paint color throughout your entire home. In our house we used pure white by Sherwin Williams. We typically use the satin finish on the walls, semi gloss on the trim, and flat finish on the ceiling. I consider pure white to be a true white that does not pull any blue or yellow hues. However, whites can look different depending on the lighting in your home so make sure to test it out before committing to enough paint for your entire house.
2. Replace old outlets, light switches, and registers
You will be amazed at how much newer your house looks just by updating your old outlets, light switches, and registers! This is my favorite part of every room makeover because it’s usually the final touch that completes the project. My husband watched YouTube tutorials to teach himself how to complete the electrical work necessary to change the light switches and outlets. It is a fairly simple process; however, light switches that control multiple lights or outlets can be a bit tricky.
3. Update light fixtures
Easy home renovations that make a huge impact are updated light fixtures! Similar to outlets and light switches, the electrical work required to replace light fixtures can be easily learned. My favorite brand of ceiling fans are from Hunter. Historically, ceiling fans are really ugly but I’ve found that the options from Hunter are actually aesthetically pleasing and also affordable. I love that their newer fans include a wireless remote in case you do not have a light switch that controls your ceiling fan. My favorite place to find affordable light fixtures is Amazon.
4. Doors
If you don’t have the budget to replace your doors, paint and updated hardware are easy home renovations that make a huge improvement! You can also glue accent trim pieces to plain doors to add character and make them look high-end. If you do choose to paint your doors, I recommend using a paint sprayer or foam roller to avoid texture and brush strokes.
5. Floors
There are many different ways that you can update your floors without breaking the bank! In our old house we painted our old plank flooring white and we used a stencil to paint a tile pattern on the linoleum flooring. If you have carpet and aren’t able to replace it, rugs are such a great way to hide ugly flooring! My favorite place to purchase rugs is from RugsUSA because they have so many cute and affordable options.
