We are in the process of making over our bedroom and the part I was the most excited about was creating a cozy bed! I went to Target and picked out all new bedding to try and replicate pictures I saw on Pinterest. I actually had a dream about finding the perfect bedding too…. that’s when you know you’re working on too many home renovation projects lol!!
In this post I am sharing the 6 tips I learned when putting together a bed that looks beautiful and feels comfortable!
1. Fresh, clean sheets!
My most basic tip to making a bed feel cozy is to keep up with washing your bedding regularly. I recommend designating 1 day of the week to washing your bedding. To make your life even easier, have 2 sets of sheets that you rotate between! That way you don’t have to wait for your sheets to dry and you can just grab the clean set from your linen closet. When it comes to your comforter, quilt, duvet, etc. make sure to follow the cleaning instructions on the tag. I made the mistake of washing and drying our king size comforter at home and ruining it. For now on, I’m only taking our comforter to the dry cleaner because they have larger machines that are better for washing our big fluffy comforter.
2. Invest in a comfortable mattress and pillows
This is where I suggest devoting most of your bedding budget! You spend so many hours of your life sleeping in your bed, and the quality of your sleep contributes immensely to your overall health and wellness. We were lucky to receive the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress as a gift and I ended up purchasing the pillows too! I just noticed that they sell mattress toppers now too which is a more affordable way to achieve a comfortable nights sleep!
3. Research different materials to find your perfect sheets
I have spent so much money trying to find the most comfortable sheets and I finally figured out that our favorite is the jersey knit material! I prefer to sleep with a silk pillowcase because it’s better for your hair and skin. You can get away with satin pillowcases but I would recommend saving up for silk because it’s just better quality.
4. Layers!
I looked at tons of pictures on Pinterest trying to decode the secret to getting the coziest looking bed, and the thing they all had in common was layers! I went with this quilt as my base layer, this comforter folded up on the end of our bed, and this decorative throw blanket.
5. A few throw pillows
Throw pillows are the accessories to make your bed look beautiful! It is unlikely that you are going to sleep with your throw pillows, so be realistic with how many you want to have to remove at night and put back on when you make your bed. I am a fan of the one long lumbar pillow look, but I am still searching for one that I love!
6. Linen spray
The final step to achieving the coziest bed ever is to use a linen spray! This helps keep your sheets smelling fresh between washes. I love making my own spray using pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils because they are non-toxic and the scent on our pillows helps us to get a restfull sleep! My favorite recipes are lavender + lemon + peppermint or orange + lavender + cedarwood. I just add 10-20 drops of each oil to a 4 oz spray bottle with water and splash of unscented witch hazel.
I hope these tips were helpful and give you some guidance on how to make your own bed extra cozy! Thank you so much for reading!
