As a mom of two shedding dogs, I know how difficult it can be to keep your house clean. Although my house is no where near perfectly clean, I have found a few ways to manage pet hair and muddy paws. This post is all about pet hair cleaning tips!

Regular Bathing and Grooming
The best thing you can do to keep your house clean when you have shedding pets is make sure that you are bathing them regularly and keeping them groomed. We typically get our dogs professionally groomed during each change of season because I find that they shed the most around this time. In between grooming I use this brush and I just purchased this nail grinder. Regular baths also help reduce the amount of shedding. We have a detachable shower head that makes bathing them at home much easier, but we also take advantage of the self-serve dog wash stations at Pet Supplies Plus because they have really nice dryers!
The Best Lint Roller For Pet Hair
This lint roller is amazing at getting pet hair off of your furniture! I use this on our couch and pillows daily. I love it because it picks up the hair using fabric rather than sticky paper. I keep one in a drawer in our living room and another in my nightstand to use on on our bed. All of the hair gets collected in a bin on the roller for you to empty into the trash.
How To Clean Muddy Paws
This is every dog owners worst nightmare. Especially mine after I just got a white rug! I know, I’m crazy. One thing you can do to stop muddy paws from tracking into your house is put a large, absorbent mat by your door. This next tip isn’t ideal, but we also keep several towels by our door on rainy days. We keep a pretty basket by the door to throw the towels in when we are not using them. This helps keep our house looking somewhat put together and it’s nice to have the towels nearby with easy access! If they have chunks of mud stuck in their paws, I will bring a large bowl of water over to the door to dip their paws in. Overall, it’s best to keep the hair around their paws trimmed and their nails cut short to avoid bringing mud into your house.
The Best Vacuum For Pet Hair
You seriously need to invest in a good vacuum when you have a shedding pet because you will need to use it at least once a day! This is the one that I have and it is the absolute best at managing pet hair in your home. I intensely researched pet vacuums before purchasing this one and I recommend it to everyone who has a shedding dog. The best part about this vacuum is that the hair doesn’t get wrapped around the brush! I also love that it has a detachable handheld portion and that it folds over for compact storing.
The Best Upholstery Cleaner
I swear by this upholstery cleaning machine and Thieves household cleaner for pet accidents. I also use this machine and cleaner to deep clean our couch and keep it smelling fresh.
Swiffer Dusters To Pick Up Hair In Hard To Get Areas
Once you have a shedding dog, you will realize that pet hair gets EVERYWHERE and sometimes it’s hard to get in certain areas. I love using these to collect hair around furniture legs, under the couch, and in corners.
Essential Oils and Dogs
I always get asked if essential oils are toxic to pets. The issue is that many essential oil companies include chemical additives and fillers, which is why I only use essential oils from Young Living. I have been using Young Living oils around my dogs daily for 5 years with no issues. I would personally be more worried about using toxic cleaning products, wall plug-ins, and candles around my pets than natural essential oils. We have diffusers running in our house every day to purify the air and I make my own room sprays to spritz on our furniture, pillows, and blankets.
Pet Hair Resistant Leggings
I know this isn’t a cleaning tip but if you have shedding dogs, you know the struggle. These leggings are the only ones I’ve found that repel pet hair. Typically I am covered in a layer of hair after my dogs brush against my legs but not with these! I am typically a size small but I like a medium in these, so you might want to order one size up!
I hope these pet hair cleaning tips were helpful! It’s a lot of work to keep your house clean when you have shedding animals, but they are 100% worth it! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today and reading this post!
