How To Make Your Bedroom Feel Relaxing

April 27, 2021

Your bedroom should be a relaxing escape from the chaos and busyness of your daily life. I am a firm believer that quality sleep is the key to achieving an overall healthy lifestyle, so it’s extremely important that your bedroom sets a cozy and relaxing tone! In this post I am sharing 5 ways to create a relaxing bedroom.

1. Choose a calming color scheme

You may not even realize it, but certain colors can actually make you feel more stressed and anxious. Start taking note of colors that you are drawn to and that make you feel peaceful and calm. I went with a neutral color palette including white, grey, gold, and wood tones; and mixed in a few touches of blush pink as an accent color! I put up a tropical inspired wallpaper accent wall since I feel most relaxed when I’m at the beach. Read this post to learn how to install removable wallpaper.

2. Reduce clutter

A disorganized mess can instantly make you feel stressed. This is why it’s important to have organization systems set up in your room such as a nightstand with drawers that can hold your bedside essentials, or a cute clothing rack to hang those items that you want to wear again before washing. Try to keep your bedroom as tidy as possible so when you lay your head down at night you’re not distracted by all of the things that need put away.

3. Cozy lighting

In our room we have battery operated candles that automatically turn on at the same time every night when we’re winding down for bed. We also have our lamp connected to a smart plug so we can tell Alexa to turn it off without having to get up. I use this alarm clock that mimics the lighting of a sunset for 30 minutes before I fall asleep. All of these things signal my brain that it’s time to slow down, relax, and fall asleep.

4. Diffuse essential oils

If you’re not already using pure therapeutic grade essential oils you are seriously missing out! My absolute favorite bedtime diffuser blend is lavender, cedarwood, and orange. Lavender may help calm the nervous system, cedarwood can help release melatonin, and orange helps reduce negative thoughts and feelings. Doesn’t that sound like the dreamiest blend ever?! I use essential oils from Young Living because their quality standards cannot be beat. Plus, they actually work!! If you want to try them for yourself I’ve put together a bundle of the three oils mentioned above here.

5. Plants

Not only do house plants make perfect decor pieces, they also provide many health benefits as well. House plants are known to help reduce stress levels, purify the air, and improve your mood! I love how my plants add life to our bedroom. If you don’t get much sunlight in your bedroom try a snake plant or zz plant, which can both survive in low-light settings.

I hope this post gave you some ideas on how to make your own bedroom feel more zen and relaxed. Thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog!
