Playroom Guest Room Combo With The IKEA Brimnes Daybed

We live in a three bedroom house which felt like more than enough space before our son was born. Once we turned the second bedroom into his nursery and realized how quickly the toys and baby items were accumulating, we decided our third bedroom would have to be a playroom guest room combo. We rarely have overnight guests but on the occasion that we do, I wanted to make sure they had a comfortable place to sleep. Enter: the IKEA Brimnes daybed. 

The IKEA Brimnes daybed is perfect for a playroom guest room combo because when the trundle is pushed in there is extra room to play, and when the trundle is pulled out you get nearly a king sized bed! In the above photo I pulled the top mattress onto the trundle frame, but I typically turn the mattresses side by side so you don't feel the gap between the mattresses as much. 

Another perk of the IKEA Brimnes daybed are the drawers included under the trundle bed frame. This extra storage is perfect in a playroom guest room combo to hold additional bed sheets, toys, or games.  

My design goal for our playroom guest room combo was to keep the space playful and educational, yet also modern. I think we achieved this look with the bedding, wall shelves, and wall art. 

On the other side of the IKEA Brimnes daybed is where most of the toys are stored. This foam puzzle playmat serves as the perfect "rug" for this space because it can easily be taken apart and stored away to pull out the trundle bed, and the terrazzo print ties in with the overall decor style. 

The IKEA Kallax shelf unit is a convenient way to store our baby's toys on display so they are easy for him to access. Above the toy storage we hung a cork board to eventually display our sons arts and crafts.
