This post is all about our Hilton Head babymoon at the Sonesta resort.
When my husband surprised me with a babymoon vacation for our 3 year anniversary I was so excited but I was a little nervous it was too late in my pregnancy to travel. I asked my friends what was the latest week in pregnancy they felt comfortable traveling and everyone told me to be home by 34 weeks at the latest. Some of my friends naturally went into labor at 35 weeks and others just said they were so uncomfortable after the second trimester. Since we were able to go on our babymoon when I was 31 weeks we started researching the top babymoon locations in the United States. We decided on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina since neither of us had ever been before, the flights were within our price range, and we wanted to stay at a resort that had a pool and beach access.

The Sonesta and the Westin were two highly recommended resorts for babymoon vacations on Hilton Head Island. We actually preferred the Westin while comparing their websites but we decided on the Sonesta since they were more flexible on their cancellation policy and we wanted to make sure we could get a refund if something would come up with my pregnancy and prevent us from being able to go on the trip.
We decided to fly into the Hilton Head Island airport which was about a 25 minute Uber to the Sonesta Resort. This worked perfectly for us since we stayed at the resort for most of the trip. If you want to explore the island and plan to rent a car you could also fly into the Savannah airport which is about a 45 minute drive to Hilton Head Island.
Check in at the Sonesta was 4pm but we arrived around noon. The resort receptionist told us our room was ready but warned that the view was the back of the building. She offered for us to upgrade to a pool view for $30 / night but our room wouldn't be ready until closer to 4 o'clock. We decided to upgrade and explored the resort to fill our time. We left our bags with the bellman, grabbed lunch at Sweet Cane's at the pool, and walked the pathway from the resort to the beach which is filled with a beautiful view of palm trees and ponds with fountains. The day we arrived was apparently the hottest day Hilton Head had experienced in the past 14 years so of course all of the chairs at the pool were taken. We decided to wait in the lobby for our room to be ready but we wished we would have realized sooner that there was a shaded adult pool area! Next to the adult pool is a fitness center with bathrooms and showers so we could have changed into our swim suits there and spent those couple of hours at the pool. This is what I would recommend doing if you get the resort before your check in time! Tip: this pool is open until 10pm while the main pool closes at 8pm.
Our Hilton Head babymoon at the Sonesta resort was from Thursday afternoon until Sunday afternoon so we had about 3 full days and 3 nights. We really just wanted to stay at the resort to relax and didn't have much interest in exploring the rest of the island. We spent most of our time at the pool and one day we rented 2 chairs and an umbrella on the beach for $50. When we booked the trip I called and scheduled a prenatal massage for myself as well as a massage for my husband. Once we got to the resort I was able to book myself a manicure and pedicure as well but they said I was really lucky they had openings, so I would make sure to book all of your spa services in advance! We ate most of our meals at the Sonesta resort. We got pizza from Bayley's Bar and Terrace, lunches and non-alcoholic frozen drinks from Sweet Cane's at the pool, and breakfast and dinners at Seacrest Restaurant and Terrace. These dining options had enough options for us to get something different each day and the food tasted good, but I'm sure there are tastier options outside of the resort.
The last day of our trip we decided to get an Uber to Harbor Town which was recommended to us by the Arum Spa employees. This was a really cute area with shops, restaurants, a beach area, and awesome views of house boats and yachts. We ate at the Crazy Crab for dinner and got ice cream from Cinnamon Bear. This was such a fun ending to our Hilton Head Island babymoon and it's definitely worth the drive to check out the area!
To wrap up my Sonesta resort Hilton Head Island review, I would definitely recommend it for a relaxing babymoon or family vacation. We loved the pool area and the short walk to the beach. There were so many families with kids of all ages and the resort provides daily activities for children. I think we will definitely return to Hilton Head Island for vacation in the future due to the nice beach and calm waters. We wouldn't mind staying at the Sonesta resort again, but my husband and I both agreed we would be interested in checking out other resort options on the island. We wished there were more food options and that the pool stayed open later. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the employees of the resort were all very friendly. Overall we really enjoyed our babymoon at the Sonesta!
