Epoxy Painted Countertops After 1 Year

June 6, 2023

About a year and a half ago I painted our kitchen countertops. If you are interested in reading more about how to paint kitchen countertops read this post that I wrote after I completed the project the first time! This post is a 1 year review of my epoxy painted countertops. I will share the durability of painted countertops as well as how I touch up any dents, chips, or scratches.

In the photos below you can see where my epoxy painted countertops were dented, chipped, and scratched. There are similar spots in other areas of the kitchen, but I thought these photos showed the worst areas. As you may be able to tell from the photos, it isn't super noticeable unless you are close. We were really gentle with our countertops for the first few months after I painted them but overtime we were more careless so most of these chips and scratches are due to not using towels or heating pads when setting things on the counter, sliding dishes across the countertop, and just setting things on the counter in a non-gentle manner.

I used 1 quart of this epoxy countertop paint the first time I painted the counters and I used about half of a quart to touch up the dents, chips, and scratches that occurred over the last year. I recommend using a foam roller to apply the epoxy countertop paint.

To touch up the countertop paint I applied the first coat in a vertical direction using the foam roller.

Once the epoxy countertop paint had dried a little while (about an hour) but was still tacky, I applied the second coat in a horizontal direction. By applying the paint in opposite directions, this will smooth out any lines created by the roller and result in a smooth finish.

After the second coat of paint, I let the countertops fully dry for about 48 hours before placing any items on the counters. The epoxy painted countertops look brand new after this touch up and it was a very easy project! If you are looking for an inexpensive way to improve the look of your kitchen countertops, I highly recommend painting them using epoxy paint. Just be aware that you likely will have to touch them up every 1-2 years.

I hope this post was helpful if you are considering epoxy painted countertops! Thanks for reading!
