Hallway Linen Closet Makeover

After the holidays I am more motivated than ever to organize messy areas of my home. Our hallway linen closets were overflowing with junk and haunted me every time I opened the doors. I finally decided to give these closets a makeover and get them super organized. This post is all about our hallway linen closet makeover and organization.

The first thing I did was paint the closet shelves. A year or two ago I painted the closets and covered the shelves in contact paper but it didn't stick very well and tore easily as I pulled items off the shelves. I was worried the paint would scratch and chip but I covered them with a coat of miniwax polycrilic and I think the felt baskets will slide off the shelves without scratching the paint. I used the same miniwax product on our back door where our dogs scratch, and the paint hasn't chipped at all!

Before putting everything back in the linen closets I decluttered a lot of items that we weren't using. I also moved items that made more sense to store in other areas. For example, I moved our steamer and iron to the laundry room. We also had way too many towels for 2 people so I got rid of the ones with stains and rips and kept only the amount that fit nicely on the shelf. 

I decided to organize our small linen closets with these felt baskets. They are large enough to hold 2 sets of extra sheets, lots of tissue boxes, and several rolled up beach towels! I love the uniform look when opening the closets and how organized they keep all of our items! 

To label each of the baskets I used gift tags that I found at Target. I used my label maker to categorize each basket and attached it using a mini binder clip.

This was my second time making over our linen closet and I feel like it's finally perfectly organized and the look I was going for. Sometimes you have to live with a project for a while and re-do it to get it just right.
